Boston Red Sox World Series 2018: Andrew Benintendi balled out in Game 1
By Sam Minton
Boston Red Sox left fielder Andrew Benintendi definitely had his moments, but he dominated the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1.
1 win down, 3 to go. On Tuesday night the Boston Red Sox jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2018 World Series. There is still plenty of baseball to be played, but the Red Sox looked great.
The Red Sox’s got production from all over the lineup and even some bench guys, but Andrew Benintendi had a great start to the World Series.
Benintendi was 4-5 on Tuesday night with an RBI. The impressive part about Benintendi’s performance was that he was the spark of Boston’s scoring outburst.

His RBI in the 1st inning gave Boston the lead, and he then came around to make it 2-0. Then in the 5th inning “Benny Biceps” singled and ended up scoring, and in the 7th inning he hit a ground rule double and once again ended up coming around to score. Benintendi almost accounted for half of the Sox’s runs in Game 1.
Now some fans were upset with Benintendi’s effort fielding, but it’s really hard to complain when you put up such great numbers at the plate. If the Red Sox’s keep scoring like they are right now you won’t have to worry about defense (at least until the bullpen eventually blows up).
Benintendi also joined an exclusive club on Tuesday night. He became the 3rd player in Boston Red Sox history to have a 4 hit game in the World Series, and he is the 4th player in the expansion era to have a 4 hit game before turning 25 years old.
So far Benintendi has to be the MVP of the series. The only other candidate would be J.D. Martinez who went 2-3 with 2 RBIs. Well, let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.
These next games will cause Red Sox nation’s heart rate to skyrocket as the Sox continue to inch closer to another World Series championship. The Boston Red Sox may only be 3 wins away, but it will probably the 3 hardest wins of the season.
But if Andrew Benintendi keeps swinging the bat like he did on Tuesday night the Boston Red Sox should be just fine.
