The Boston Celtics continue to struggle but they are headed in the right direction by moving Gordon Hayward to the bench.

This hasn’t been the season that Boston Celtics fans were expecting. The C’s were supposed to dominate and blow out every opponent they face. That hasn’t been the case.

The Celtics are currently in 7th place of the Eastern Conference with a record of 9-8. Part of the C’s struggles have to do with Gordon Hayward. It looks like his gruesome injury last season has definitely taken a toll.

So the Boston Celtics decided to move Hayward to the bench. If you told Celtics fans that when they first traded for Hayward they would be calling for Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge to be fired.

More from Chowder and Champions

Hayward just looks like a completely different player. He is averaging just 9.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

It just seems like Hayward has lost his shot. He is shooting less than 40 percent from the field and is atrocious from behind the arc. To put it in perspective, Marcus Smart has a better 3 point percentage than Hayward.

Hayward also looks like a much slower player on the floor. You can’t expect him to be the same player that he once was, but the lack of speed has made it harder for him to get buckets.

Gordon Hayward needs to find his game

The move to the bench is a smart move. Hayward should be able to take advantage of going up against teams bench players. Maybe he will flourish in that 6th man role.

Hayward’s main goal should be finding his shot. Even if he isn’t up to speed in other areas, the Celtics can find opportunities to get Gordon open. Once he finds his shot the Celtics should be much more successful.

Next. Boston Celtics need to take less three-point shots. dark

This season seems like it is going to be about patience for Boston Celtics fans. We just have to wait for Gordon Hayward and the C’s to make that one adjustment. Once they do I expect the Celtics to shoot up the standings and become the team that we expected them to be.
