Gordon Hayward had his best game of the season in the Boston Celtics Saturday night victory. If Hayward can maintain this level of play he will be back in the starting lineup in no time.

The Basketball gods haven’t been kind to Gordon Hayward this season. He has struggled almost as much as the entire Boston Celtics team has so far this season. Now things appear to be changing.

When Hayward first came back he looked like a completely different player. He looked slow going up the court and was struggling to find his shot.

After such a drastic injury this should be expected, but it seemed like Hayward would never come close to the player he once was. On Saturday night, he showed Celtics fans exactly why they signed him.

More from Chowder and Champions

Hayward was the Celtics leading scorer off the bench. He racked up 30 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and 2 steals on the night.

Obviously, the scoring outburst is impressive, but Hayward was shooting the lights out. He was 4-5 from beyond the 3 point line and was able to get to the foul line a ton. Hayward made all 10 of his free throws.

This is the type of player that Celtics fans were expecting. Before the Kyrie Irving trade, Hayward was looked at to be the main guy. Now he has some help, but Hayward was still expected to be one of the top scorers on this Celtics squad.

It will be intriguing to see what Brad Stevens does in these next couple of games. The starting lineup seems to always be changing, so maybe Hayward will crack the starting five.

Even if Hayward remains on the bench he can still play a major role. He played 30 minutes which is a large chunk of playing time compared to most bench players. Having a player who can score 30 points come off the bench definitely isn’t a bad thing.

Next. Everyone buzzing about Robert Williams. dark

This is the Gordon Hayward that Boston Celtics fans were itching to see. His performance was definitely well worth the wait.
