With it seeming more and more likely that Josh McDaniels will get a head coaching gig the New England Patriots are already looking for a new offensive coordinator.

For the first time in 10 years, the New England Patriots are forced to look for a new offensive coordinator.

Josh McDaniels is one of the hottest coaches on the market right now. The Cleveland Browns and the Green Bay Packers are in a battle for the offensive genius.

There are a boatload of NFL jobs available this season so the New England Patriots are planning for life without McDaniels. They are already looking at candidates to replace him.

More from Chowder and Champions

One of the candidates that has garnered the most buzz is Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury has had an interesting college career. He was head coach at Texas Tech and had a sub-par 35-40 record, but is still one of the hottest commodities in football.

Kingsbury is viewed in the same regard as McDaniels, an offensive guru. When you help form Patrick Mahomes into the quarterback that he is today you deserve some serious credit.

Now the ball is seemingly in Kingsbury’s court. He is currently the OC at USC but has been approached by multiple NFL teams. USC hasn’t taken kindly to interview requests and has blocked all pro teams from interviewing Kingsbury.

If Kingsbury wants a shot at the NFL he is going to have to bet on himself and resign from his position.

Kingsbury actually has ties to New England. He was drafted by the team in 2003, but his quarterback career never panned out. Kliff may have gotten the most important recommendation from his former teammate, Tom Brady.

"“Kliff has done a great job at Texas Tech, and I know he’s at USC, but it doesn’t surprise me that a lot of teams are interested. He’s just a great football mind, and he’ll be successful wherever he’s at.”"

If Tom Brady wants Kliff Kingsbury the Patriots are going to get Kliff Kingsbury. That is just how things work in New England.

I wouldn’t mind having Kingsbury in New England. If he can work magic with Mahomes imagine what he can do with Tom Brady for a few years.

So if Josh McDaniels does decide to leave New England things won’t be that bad. Even when it comes to coaches it is next man up for the Patriots.
