It looked like Josh McDaniels was about to get a head coaching job, but for now the offensive coordinator will be staying with the New England Patriots.

It seemed like Josh McDaniels was nearing the end of his New England Patriots coaching career. There was a ton of buzz around the offensive coordinator, but now it looks like McDaniels won’t be going anywhere.

The coaching market has heated up and teams are finally hiring their new head coaches. One of these teams is the Green Bay Packers, the only team that has interviewed Josh McDaniels. The Packers hired Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur.

This seemed like McDaniels best opportunity at a job. He would get an amazing quarterback something he didn’t have when he became the Denver Broncos head coach.

In a conference call with the media on Tuesday McDaniels ended his possible head coaching endeavors.

"“The book is closed,” he said Tuesday in a conference call. “It’s always a humbling experience to have an opportunity to interview with anybody for that position and I was thankful for the opportunity to meet with Green Bay. It always gives you greater insight into another organization and how they do things. It’s been very educational for me every time I’ve gone through it and I’ve appreciated every single one of them. That was great but no, I’m completely focused on the Chargers and our season and finishing it strong and I’ll be here moving forward.”"

Waiting for his turn?

If you are a Patriots fan this is good news. McDaniels is Tom Brady’s right hand man on the sideline. He seems to be one of the few guys that Brady trusts.

So now the Patriots will continue to have one of the best offensive minds in football today. The man made Cordarelle Patterson a quality running back. That is a pretty impressive feat.

You have to think that McDaniels antics last offseason affected his ability to land a job. After backing out at the absolute last minute McDaniels has a long way to rebuilding trust with teams who will want him to be a coach.

Now it seems like McDaniels best shot at a head coaching job is in New England. Bill Belichick isn’t getting any younger and has accomplished a lot. Belichick has already established himself as one of the best coaches in NFL history. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Belichick retire relatively soon.

Next. James White could have special game vs Chargers. dark

So it looks like the offensive genius may just stay in New England for the rest of his career.
