At Super Bowl Opening Night in Atlanta, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski didn’t calm fans nerves in regards to his possible retirement.

Super Bowl Opening Night is always a fun night. You get to hear some great quotes and sometimes enjoy some laughs. Even though New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was making media members smile he may have made some fans nervous.

This season has been really weird for Rob Gronkowski. He hasn’t been the same amazing tight end that he has been in past seasons.

In the regular season, Gronkowski had 47 catches for 682 yards and 3 touchdowns. Those aren’t the type of numbers that you expect from a great tight end such as Gronkowski.

The number that sticks out the most is the lack of touchdowns. Gronkowski’s height makes him a weapon in the red zone.

After scoring a touchdown in Week 1, Gronk had to wait until Week 12 to return to the red zone.

We have seen Gronkowski stay in and block much more often compared to prior seasons. As we saw in the AFC Championship he is still able to make some amazing catches, but the amazing tight end we know and love is getting crushed by “Father Time.”

On Monday night Gronkowski didn’t make Patriots fans feel any better. He had a perfect opportunity to say he is excited to come back next year but instead said this.

If I had to bet whether Rob Gronkowski was going to retire after the Super Bowl (you actually can at some sportsbooks if you so please), I would lean towards yes.

Gronkowski just looked like a shell of himself this season. Nothing he does in the Super Bowl can erase the poor performance in the regular season.

If Gronkowski wants to get paid, it won’t be in New England. His performance in the regular season ruined any chance of a nice payday.

So enjoy Rob Gronkowski on Super Bowl Sunday, it will probably be the last time you see him in a New England Patriots uniform.
