After watching his brother Devin McCourty win two Super Bowls, New England Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty got to share with him a Super Bowl LIII victory.

While one twin was drafted into a consistent dynasty, the other twin watched on from teams buried in mediocracy.  Finally playing together for the New England Patriots, the two brothers got to share together in the confetti of victory.

And there you have it.

One of the great stories of this 2018 Patriots team was that of the McCourty twins.  As fans, we all knew about Devin McCourty, but what Jason McCourty bought to the team was a level of humbleness.

You see, coming over from a 0-16 team, Jason McCourty has never tasted the sweet luxury of going to AFC Championship games year in and year out.  He never knew the feeling of playing in Super Bowls just about every other year.  He got to witness it through Devin but playing for a winning organization and playing a role in that success is a beautiful thing, especially when you have taken the path Jason has had to take.

More from Chowder and Champions

Yes, the New England Patriots have one another Super Bowl, but it is players who come to the team like Jason McCourty that makes each championship so special.  When dedication and hard work pays off, you can only feel joy for the Patriots veteran cornerback.

"“It’s a beautiful thing man, God is good,” Jason said following Super Bowl LIII.  “0-16 last year, Super Bowl champion this year.  I couldn’t have thought this up man.  Dev texted Bill [Belichick] and told him that two McCourtys are better than one.  I guess he believed that and I know tonight he believes it.”"

The winning play

Fans certainly believed it when Jason McCourty hustled to break up a sure touchdown pass from Jared Goff to Brandin Cooks in the second half.  It was a broken play that could’ve changed the entire complexion of the game.  It was a championship play that exemplified everything the 2018 New England Patriots were made of.

A team with no real identity throughout the season was also a team that always rose to the occasion just when they were thought to be down and out.  That one play symbolized what it meant to never give up on a play and most importantly for Jason McCourty, what it means to keep working hard.  Through his many seasons of losing and what the team went through this year, he was simply built for the moment as was the rest of his teammates.

"“The staff has told us the past few weeks, this is the moment we are built for,” Jason continued.  “I remember when I first came to this team in April, there was a whole media spectacle that it wouldn’t be any fun here.  It’s my third organization and my 10th season, I haven’t had more fun than this season.”"

Winning does make it fun.  But, for the McCourty twins it was even more special getting the opportunity to play together.  Just think about all those seasons Jason McCourty got to witness his brother Devin perform on the big stage and win Super Bowls.

This past Sunday night, it was Devin who got to watch his brother Jason McCourty make the saving play of Super Bowl LIII.  This time both shared the same uniform, the same logo, the same tears of joy and are both Super Bowl champions.

If they weren’t mirror images of each other before, they certainly are now.
