The one thing the Tom Brady and the New England Patriots proved during their postseason run is that they are still here and hungry for more.

One thing Tom Brady critics should’ve learned from the 2018 NFL season is never doubt or underestimate the New England Patriots quarterback.

If they didn’t learn from the start of the 2014 season when it appeared Brady was on the decline, they certainly got a clue during the go-ahead drive in Super Bowl LIII.  But, to the defense of the Max Kellermans and Rob Parkers of the televised media world, it sure looked like the cliff they’ve been predicting for almost a decade now was finally here.

There were definitely times during the season in which Tom Brady looked every bit of 41 years old.  He didn’t manipulate the pocket as well as he used to and wasn’t great against the blitz.  The great Warren Moon saw the end coming.  That proclamation only fueled the Brady doubters to jump loudly on that bandwagon.

But what also fueled the end of Tom Brady and end of the New England Patriots dynasty talk was the new kids on the block.  Sick and tired of that old man Brady, the NFL media jumped on the shoulders of Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff as their teams looked like likely heroes that would knock the Patriots off the top of the mountain.

During the NFL regular season, they did that.  So did the Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers.  But all those teams sat at home during the playoffs watching Tom Brady and the Patriots turn it on and stampede through the same teams that were predicted to knock them out.

Still here

But what was forgotten was Tom Brady still threw for 4,355 yards during the regular season without Julian Edelman for four games and with a Rob Gronkowski who was a shell of himself.

What was forgotten was that the Patriots offense had to change its identity twice during the season.  First, by inserting Josh Gordon into the offense and then, redefining their offensive identity when he had to walk away from the game again.

What was forgotten, even in those games where Tom Brady looked less than average, was how good this man is when he is extra motivated.  Taken in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, Brady still plays the game with a chip on his shoulder.  And while he ultimately knows time will win, he still has something to prove mostly to himself.

With six Super Bowl rings and arguably the best to play the game, Tom Brady has promised a 19th NFL season by showing the rest of the NFL that he is still here.  He is still capable of lighting it up on the field when he has the weapons.  He is still capable of leading game-winning drives when the game is on the line.

Most importantly, he still has all the answers to the test.  He proved it this season even with the mid-season report card had gave him a less than average grade.  Never count this man out, because he is still here with a ring on each finger of his right hand and one on his left.  Folks, Tom Brady still has four naked fingers.

That is now his motivation.
