The Boston Bruins may have improved their team, but they failed to make the big splash that could have made them Stanley Cup contenders.

The 2019 NHL trade deadline was one of the best in recent years. We saw some big moves happen, but sadly none of them involved the Boston Bruins.

Now prior to the trade deadline, Boston acquired Charlie Coyle. I think this was a quality move. Coyle isn’t an insane goal scorer but he is a quality top 9 forward. Coyle has scored 10 goals and 18 assists this season so he is still one a top scorer for Boston.

Still, Coyle seemed to be just the start. Fans were begging for a dream deal involving Artemi Panarin or Mark Stone. These players would make Boston an absolute beast in the Eastern Conference.

Boston is still doing well sitting at 2nd in the Eastern Conference, but the Tampa Bay Lightning seem lightyears ahead of the team. If Boston acquired one of these guys it would balance the playing field.

So did Boston make a splash? Nope.

Boston went out and acquired Marcus Johansson. Now I like that the Bruins only got rid of draft picks. They were able to improve their scoring without getting rid of prospects.

Johansson is a decent player. He will be a solid addition to the 3rd line, but he doesn’t put Boston over the edge. So far this season, Johansson has 12 goals and 15 assists, but he has scored 6 goals and 6 assists in the last 13 games.

So it will be interesting to see how the Boston Bruins do the rest of the season. They definitely acquired some much-needed depth, but will it be enough?

Next. Ryan Donato handling trade poorly. dark

Only time will tell, but it will take a lot to get to the Stanley Cup, but playoff hockey is unpredictable and there is still a chance that the Bruins are champions when the season ends.
