New England Patriots Rumors: Golden Tate a golden target for Tom Brady
With free agency approaching, the New England Patriots will explore the wide receiver market and Golden Tate seems like a golden choice.
There is no doubt the New England Patriots are in the market via free agency or trade for a top wide receiver. With Julian Edelman as the only receiver from the Super Bowl LIII roster under contract for the 2019 NFL season, expect the team to aggressively pursue more reliable targets for Tom Brady.
Enter veteran wide receiver Golden Tate.
As one of the top potential free agents at the positions, the interest the Patriots have in him is certainly there. The 30-year-old wide receiver was an NFL trade deadline target of the team before the Detroit Lions decided to trade him to the Philadelphia Eagles.

With his time in the league winding down, Tate has made it known that he does want to play for a team with a chance of winning a Super Bowl as he approaches free agency. He may be willing to take a little less to do so. That’s why a potential marriage between the New England Patriots and Golden Tate appear to be the perfect NFL nuptials.
So, if the Patriots propose to Tate with a deal, would he accept for a chance to wear a ring?
Well, of course.
"“I would love it. That organization, they’ve proven to be champions year-in and year-out,” Tate said via the Prostyle Podcast. “They work hard, for sure. But you know where you’re going to be at the end of the season; you’re going to be looking at not [only] going to the playoffs, but maybe a first-round bye. You got to admire that organization. They do things right and they’ve been doing it for a long, long, long time.So I’d definitely love to be a part of something like that, and definitely catch a few passes from old Tommy Boy”"
If the Patriots don’t pull off a blockbuster trade for the likes of a Odell Beckham Jr., Tate is the logical target for the defending champions.
Hooking Tate up with Brady
The New England Patriots will certainly target a receiver or two in the 2019 NFL Draft, but Tom Brady need some veterans and targets he can rely on, especially if Rob Gronkowski retires.
With a total of 611 receptions for 7,214 yards and 38 touchdowns in his nine-year career, Tate seems like a perfect choice for Brady not just because of the numbers, but because of his strive to win.
As a player who has already won a Super Bowl, Golden Tate recognizes what it takes to win and should have no problem adapting to the Patriot Way. Along with his close relationship to Julian Edelman, he should have no problem instantly becoming a favorite of Tom Brady both on and off the field.
While Brady hasn’t always meshed with veteran receivers who have come in, Tate is exactly the type of football player who could find chemistry with the 41-year-old quarterback. He can also help younger wide receivers who the New England Patriots bring in which is an added value in signing him.
