The New England Patriots need a deep threat that they can rely on to stay on the field. If they can land A.J. Brown they will get one of the best wideouts in the 2019 draft class.

You probably have heard of one wide receiver out of Ole Miss, but there is another one you should be paying attention to who could end up on the New England Patriots.

The talk of the draft is D.K. Metcalf. The dude looks like he was created in a video game. He was the star wideout at Ole Miss, but A.J. Brown should be on Patriots fans radar.

More from Chowder and Champions

Brown had a much better season for the Rebels. He tallied 85 catches for 1,320 yards and 6 touchdowns. Brown also had a spectacular sophomore season catching 11 touchdowns.

Now the Patriots definitely could use a wideout. Josh Gordon is talented when he is on the field, but he has proven he can’t stay on the gridiron for a full season. After Julian Edelman there is just a whole lot of mediocre talent on this team.

Brown showed out at the combine. He is one of the few players to get ranked an instant starter with a 6.08 ranking (4th best out of all wide receivers).

Scouts believe that Brown has some great route running abilities and is able to shake off defenders. He has even drawn some comparisons to JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Will New England take the risk?

The question is will he fall to the Patriots? Brown had a visit with New England which shows mutual interest but will also increase his value. Once you get the Patriots seal of approval all the other NFL teams are on high alert. This guy must be legit.

Even if he does fall to the New England Patriots, will they take him? The last time that New England took a receiver near the 1st round it was a complete bust. I wonder what Chad Jackson is up to now?

If the Patriots are somehow able to get Brown I think they should throw him into the fire right away. Make him your 2nd or 3rd best wide receiver and see what he can do. With Tom Brady as your quarterback it is hard to perform poorly.

With the lack of depth at wideout I think this would be a great pickup by the New England Patriots. They need to start thinking about their future and preparing for life without Julian Edelman who is reaching the tail end of his career.

A.J. Brown is worth the risk and I would love to see him in a New England Patriots jersey in 2019.
