The Boston Bruins will once again be without a starting defenseman in the playoffs with Kevan Miller out due to a lower-body injury.

I don’t know what it is about the Boston Bruins and their defenseman but one always seems to miss the playoffs.

For the last two years it was Brandon Carlo. Seeing Carlo get a chance to show what he can do in the postseason brought a tear to Bruins fans eyes. This season has been a great one for Carlo.

But we counted our chickens before they hatched. It looks like the Bruins will be short a defenseman once again in the postseason.

Before the start of the series Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy mentioned that Kevan Miller would miss the first round with a lower-body injury.

This isn’t that much of a surprise. Miller missed 39 games this season. His physical play makes it easy for the defender to get banged up. We already saw this with Adam McQuaid who constantly seemed to get hurt.

Then we got this update from Rear Admiral.

Miller hasn’t exactly had a great season either. He has no goals and 7 assists this season.

The Bruins don’t need Miller for his scoring. They need him for his strength. One look can instill fear in any opponent.

Miller is also a quality stay at home defenseman. The Bruins have plenty of guys that can move the puck, but you also need a guy that you can trust in your own zone.

At this point I believe that the Bruins need to consider moving on from Miller. The team has a boatload of talent. We will probably get to see how well Connor Clifton will do on the playoffs. If he does well why not keep him with the big boys next season?

The Bruins may be able to trade Miller because he still has a year left on his contract. Maybe a team will try to take him on and re-sign him in the offseason or rent him for a Stanley Cup run?

It just seems like the right time for the Boston Bruins to move on from Kevan Miller.
