New England Patriots: Team bulking up at wide receiver
By Sam Minton
The New England Patriots latest moves at wide receiver show that they are bucking the status quo and getting bigger wide receivers.
When you think of New England Patriots wide receivers you can paint a rather vivid picture in your head.
You usually think of a short slot receiver similar to Troy Brown, Wes Welker, or Julian Edelman. Over the years this has become the team’s bread and butter

This offseason it seems like things are changing. It all starts with New England’s 1st pick in the 2019 NFL draft.
When the Patriots drafted N’Keal Harry you could sense that the tide was turning. Harry is a Josh Gordon type receiver. He will be a quality deep threat that Tom Brady will love having on the team. New England also picked up Demaryius Thomas in the offseason who will be a quality deep threat as well.
The Patriots latest move confirms that they are straying away from the short and speedy slot receivers and are bulking up. New England signed Dontrelle Inman to a 1-year deal.
Inman hasn’t found a home in his 5 year NFL career. He has now played for 5 different teams.
I think that Inman will be a solid pickup. He will be a depth receiver that can fill in if someone gets injured and is probably 4th on the depth chart at the moment.
Inman also has a love for the game and is a football genius according to league experts. No wonder the New England Patriots wanted to pick him up. He should be a good leader and has experience working with a quality quarterback.
Don’t expect Dontrelle Inman to light up the stat sheet, but I think this was a great depth move for the New England Patriots. With how the wide receiver corps is looking, maybe life without Rob Gronkowski won’t be that bad.
