When I saw the news come across my Twitter timeline I was stunned. I couldn’t believe my eyes. All of Boston paused as the news of Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz’s incident in the Dominican Republic began to spread.

These types of events can remind you of what’s important. Whenever an incident like this occurs it reminds me to thank people while you still have the chance.
David Ortiz might be an amazing player, but he is also an amazing person. Boston became Ortiz’s 2nd home. Big Papi loved Boston and we loved him back.
One of the more lasting impacts that Ortiz made was his speech after the tragic Boston Marathon bombings. Ortiz reminded us to stay strong and even had a few FCC violations.
The “this is our… city speech” will forever be remembered in Boston. It revitalized a city and was a true embodiment of what Boston was all about.
Ortiz has also done a lot to help his home country. Ortiz’s Children’s Fund charity helps the youth in the Dominican Republic who cannot afford necessary medical services.
That’s what makes this incident so horrible. In his home country, the place he has helped so much, he is somehow still in danger.
But that bullet couldn’t stop Ortiz. Just like he reminded us at Fenway Park all of Red Sox nation will remind David Ortiz that he is Boston strong.
The road to recovery begins and all of Boston will have your back Big Papi. Get well soon!
