Boston Bruins: Winning Stanley Cup would be historic on multiple levels
By Mike Caliri
With a 5-1 win on Sunday night, the Boston Bruins forced a game seven.
On the brink of elimination against the St. Louis Blues, the Boston Bruins pulled off an impressive win on the back of Tuukka Rask who made 28 saves on 29 shots (.966).
The win actually set up the potential for an interesting piece of Boston sports history.
The last time that there was a game seven in a championship round in Boston was when the Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers on June 12, 1984.

The Bruins vs. Blues game seven is 35 years to the day since that game.
The Bruins hoisting the Cup Wednesday night would also make Boston the only city to win three championships in the same year under the modern format.
New York did it in the 1969-1970 season when the Knicks, Jets and Mets each won a championship, however the NFL only played 14 regular season and two post-season games back then. Plus they have multiple teams in every sports so it’s less impressive to us Bostonians who value the one team in each we have.
The other captivating storyline of the Stanley Cup Finals is Bruins’ defenseman Zdeno Chara’s broken jaw.
Just three days after taking a puck to the face and breaking his jaw, Chara laced em up for game five in what is arguably the grittiest Boston playoff comeback since Curt Shilling and the bloody sock.
Right away Zdeno Chara took a shot off the clunky piece of plastic shielding his broken bone and he has taken multiple in the two games since the injury.
In his return he has been formidable, but his mere presence on the ice has value in terms of what it does for his teammates mentally.
As the captain, a leader and a veteran likely reaching the end of his career, his willingness to fight through injury at what is probably his last shot at a Stanley Cup is inspiring to spectators so I can only imagine how badly his teammates want to win it for him
If the Boston Bruins can manage to win the Cup, Chara’s story will go down as the stuff of legends among all of the greats to win in this city.
Wednesday night has the potential for a tremendous moment in Boston sports history and the city could use another parade.
