After the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox won championships this year, seemed the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins were following suit, but not all ended well in Boston sports.

The Boston Bruins lost in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals and the Boston Celtics are likely about to watch their star player leave town, so what’s next?

It might be a while before another championship trophy comes back to TD Garden.

What’s next for the Bruins

On Wednesday night, the Bruins were shutout by the St. Louis Blues to lose their second Stanley Cup Finals of the decade.

More from Boston Bruins

With an aging group, you have to assume this was probably one of their last, if not their last, chance to win another Cup with this group.

They do have some young talent in the system and should still be a solid team next year.

However, the way things lined up for them this season with top teams dropping in early rounds, was a perfect recipe for them to win it all.

The odds of something like that happening again are probably almost zero.

Now you throw teams that the Bruins can never seem to beat like Washington and Tampa back into the fray and a chance at the Cup becomes increasingly difficult. It might be a while until you see the Boston Bruins hoisting another Cup and it will probably be with a lot of new faces when they finally do.

Still, hats off to this group for an incredible season. It’s just a shame guys like Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara probably won’t get another one.

What’s next for the Celtics

Kyrie Irving signed with ROC Nation last night, which is conveniently owned by Jay-Z who, of course, is part owner of the Brooklyn Nets.

This doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but come on…

It means he’s going to the Nets.

Another report surfaced last night stating that Anthony Davis’s agent Rich Paul said that if AD goes to Boston, he would stay for a year and then leave in free agency.

But don’t expect that to stop Danny Ainge

In my opinion, it’s a lost cause. I don’t think he wants to be here long-term, but I hope I’m wrong because they need him.

A recent report also said that the Celtics do not want to use all three of their first round picks, which is no surprise, so deals are likely in the works.

Without acquiring a top 15 player in the league the Boston Celtics are likely not in title contention next season.

Aside from lack of elite talent, they also have salary cap issues from the aftermath of Irving’s deal (even if he leaves) as well as Al Horford and Gordon Hayward’s ridiculous contracts.

Going forward, the Celtics will probably be exactly who they have been for the past four or five seasons, a team that makes it to the Eastern Conference Semis or ECF and then gets bounced by a team with an elite player.

This offseason likely holds the fate of the franchise for the next five to ten years.
