New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is known for his strictness but it looks like the veteran head coach might be losing his fastball.

When you think of Bill Belichick you think of his strictness. That is probably the reason that the New England Patriots have become one of the most dominant franchises in professional sports.

Belichick will penalize players for being 5 minutes late to a meeting. He notoriously did this even though there was a snowstorm in New England.

If a player makes a mistake he will find himself on the bench. Patriots running backs have learned that if you fumble the ball you won’t be getting a lot of playing time.

Now age can sometimes mellow a person. As you get older you learn to not let things bother you as much as they used to.

But according to Julian Edelman, the coach has adjusted and isn’t as tough as he used to be.

"“I think he’s the same guy when it comes to game planning and preparation and all that stuff,” Edelman said. “But he’s probably one of the best evolvers in the league. And yes, honestly it has gotten softer from when I first got there. A lot of guys think it’s tough, but we used to have double days and we’d have seven or eight days of double days in a row. With the type of guys you have coming in now, I think it’s a different mindset.”"

This is a necessary move by Bill Belichick. You have to evolve to the different players that are entering the league.

We have seen Belichick be lenient to certain players. Rob Gronkowski is the greatest example. Belichick let Gronkowski be himself no matter how wild he was. Gronk would dance all over the field and was one of the best interviews each and every week.

Now incoming rookies shouldn’t feel that they have the go-ahead to do anything. Rob Gronkowski was the best tight end in NFL history. You have to earn the respect that Gronkowski got.

Belichick’s willingness to evolve is why he will go down as one of the best coaches in NFL history. Some of the league’s greats would be stubborn and stick to their ways, but Belichick has improved every single season.

So Bill Belichick might not be as tough as he once was, but that is why he is the best coach in the NFL. He is constantly changing to make his team better.
