BOSTON, MA – OCTOBER 14: Gordon Hayward #20 of the Boston Celtics (Photo by Adam Glanzman/Getty Images) /

3. Gordon Hayward can come off the bench.

Boston’s 2nd unit has taken quite the hit this offseason. Marcus Morris and Terry Rozier have departed leaving a large hole on the bench.

As the roster is constructed right now it looks like there is a good chance that Gordon Hayward regains his starting role. Now this may be a good thing if Hayward becomes the player he was with the Utah Jazz, but I’m not confident in that happening.

I think Hayward is better off working with the 2nd unit. If the Celtics acquire Russell Westbrook they definitely could afford to have Hayward work with the 2nd unit.

This would make sure that the bench unit isn’t a liability and that Brad Stevens doesn’t have to worry about resting his starters. Last season the 2nd unit struggled to score and was a problem. If you want to go far in the playoffs you need a deep rotation.

Next. DeMarcus Cousins a force worth the risk. dark

It might be a longshot, but Russell Westbrook could be headed to Boston.
