Michael Bennett returned from his excused absence and proved that New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has a heart.

When you think of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick you are reminded of how cold and calculated he is, but maybe we had it all wrong.

Throughout his career, Belichick has proven that he is willing to make some tough decisions. He has cut beloved safety Lawyer Milloy, considered trading Rob Gronkowski, and even benched Malcolm Butler in the Super Bowl.

It seems like Belichick still finds a way to surprise us. Even after coaching the New England Patriots for so long.

The Patriots signed Michael Bennett in the offseason to replace Trey Flowers. Those are some tough shoes to fill but Bennett definitely has the talent.

Patriots fans were excited to see Bennett on the field, but the defensive end missed the team’s first few practices. It looks like there was a very good reason that Bennett was absent.

"“I just had a family issue that I had to go take care of,” Bennett explained. “I was lucky Coach [Bill] Belichick – it’s nice when you have a coach that sees you as a human, sees you as a human being, not just a number and you’re able to go talk to him, tell him what’s going on, and you’re able to go take care of it. That just makes you want to play harder for a coach. When he believes in you, and lets you take care of your family first.”"

We have seen a lot of people in the past talk poorly about the Patriots and the so-called “Patriot Way.” They like to say how the team only cares about winning and doesn’t care at all about their players.

I think it is fair to say that this most recent scenario busts that myth. The Patriots care about their players just as much as they care about winning.

Bennett looked good at his first practice. He was explosive off of the line and was one of the best players on the field.

The New England Patriots defense may have somehow found a way to improve. After their success last season that seemed almost impossible.

So expect Michael Bennett to rack up a bunch of sacks and some of the credit will have to go to Bill Belichick and his ability to work with his players.
