Marcus Smart has emerged as a leader for Team USA and he could even become a leader for the Boston Celtics.

There is no doubt that the Boston Celtics fans love Marcus Smart. He honestly might be the fan favorite in Boston. He might not light up the stat sheet but he has other ways to make an impact on the game.

Now Smart may not be renowned nationally but he deserves it. He is one of the premier defenders in the NBA today.

Smart got some recognition by being named to this Team USA team and it appears he has made quite the impact. Even though it isn’t in an official capacity, Marcus Smart was named one of the captains of Team USA.

This is just a testament to how great Smart is. He truly can mold to any locker room. We all knew that he worked well with everyone in Boston, but now with new players, he is still making an impact.

Smart’s style of play lends himself to being a leader. He gives 120 percent for the entire game. He is the type of guy that you would want to go to war with.

Now the Boston Celtics are in need of a captain. They were without a true leader last season and we saw how that ended up. It was an absolute disaster.

I think with a leader like Smart, the Celtics may surprise some teams this upcoming season. The acquisitions of Kemba Walker and Enes Kanter shouldn’t be undervalued. These guys will have a major impact on the team this season and we might even see Walker have a better season than Kyrie Irving did last year.

So Marcus Smart deserves to get the keys to the car this season and be the leader in Boston’s locker room. Hopefully he will ensure that the Celtics do much better and go deeper into the playoffs.
