New England Patriots: Stephon Gilmore cemented DPOY honors
By Sam Minton
With his performance in Week 12, Stephon Gilmore has ensured that he will win the defensive player of the year award. He has been the driving force behind the dominance of the New England Patriots defense.
What we have seen from Stephon Gilmore this season is nothing short of amazing. He has far and away been the New England Patriots best defensive player.
If Gilmore is lining up across from you just don’t even do anything. There is no point in wasting your energy. Gilmore is going to lock you down.

It’s insane the numbers that Gilmore has been putting up. What is even more impressive is that he has done it against the league’s best receivers.
So far this season Gilmore has 34 tackles, 4 interceptions, and a touchdown. You can’t have a much better season than that.
But what we have seen from Gilmore these last 3 weeks has been nothing short of spectacular. He has 8 consecutive incompletions with 3 pass break-ups and one interception.
It would be highway robbery at this point if Gilmore didn’t get defensive player of the year honors. He has had the best season that a corner could possibly have.
Gilmore and the New England Patriots defense are the main reason I am still confident that this team can win the Super Bowl.
The Patriots offense has been less than stellar. Tom Brady doesn’t look like himself and the run game has been nonexistent at points. Julian Edelman is the only reliable wide receiver on the roster.
Gilmore and the Patriots defense have single-handedly won games for the team. Without them I don’t think the New England Patriots would be at the top of the AFC.
So due to his importance and amazing play, there is no doubt that Stephon Gilmore will be the defensive player of the year this season.
