There have been some rumored changes coming to the NBA and one of the proposed ideas is a midseason tournament and Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge is a fan of the idea.

Some inventions to the game of basketball have changed the game and Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge isn’t afraid to make some more changes.

There have been inventions and rules that changed how the game was played. The shot clock and the 3 point line are ones that stand out. Without it there would be no Steph Curry. The modern NBA would look completely different.

Well there could be some more changes. The NBA is considering adding a midseason tournament into the schedule.

As a way to make things interesting a draft pick could be given to the winner of the tournament.

The idea is definitely an interesting one and it has the support of Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge. He spoke about his support of the midseason tournament on the Toucher and Rich Show.

This just seems like such a drastic change. It’s like the NBA is trying to become like the English Premier League.

Also, it just seems like a big cash grab. You can almost guarantee that there will be special uniforms for the midseason tournament. Then if your team wins you got to get that midseason championship gear.

One would also have to assume that this would mean that the NBA season would be shortened. Adding a midseason tournament means more games and with load management taking over the NBA, I don’t expect players would want to make the season longer.

So the idea of a midseason tournament might be interesting but I don’t think it will work. It would take a lot of compromise from the players and owners and that is something you can’t depend on.
