New England Patriots fans were left stunned when Josh Gordon was released. Now we finally know why the Patriots made that decision.

The story of Josh Gordon has been filled with many trials and tribulations. When he was with the New England Patriots those times felt like they were in the past.

But Josh Gordon appears to have a problem. One that is way bigger than the game of football.

I remember how perplexed I was when the New England Patriots released Gordon. It just didn’t make any sense.

New England had no depth at wide receiver. Gordon was also still playing well. Why would the Patriots get rid of him?

Monday night we got our answer. It seems that the Patriots knew something that we didn’t (they always do).

The NFL announced that Josh Gordon was suspended indefinitely and it breaks your heart reading this.

At this point, I think that Gordon has to call it a career. His substance abuse problems are a much more important issue.

Gordon has made enough money. Especially for someone who hasn’t played a lot of games.

The career of Josh Gordon can be described in two words, what if? What if Gordon never had these substance abuse issues? What if he actually had a complete career?

I don’t think you can blame the Patriots for getting rid of Gordon. They gave him so many chances. New England did what had to be done.

Sadly I think that Gordon has run out of chances. I don’t think any team will take a risk on him again.

Now, all we can do is hope that Gordon focuses on getting help. It is clear that he needs it. Life isn’t over for Gordon if he doesn’t play another game in the NFL. He should focus on making the best of his post-football life.
