Three members of the Boston Red Sox organization stated that the team stole signs during their 2018 World Series championship season. Whether these accusations are true or not the championship will be tainted.

Things are not looking good for Alex Cora and the Boston Red Sox. They are the latest team to be caught up in the middle of a sign stealing.

There were reports that the Red Sox were doing this, but to see the details is pretty astonishing.

A player would go to the replay room to figure out the sign sequence. Then that information would be relayed to the dugout and then to a baserunner who would tip the pitches to the batter. That is a pretty sophisticated system.

The MLB has already announced that they will be investigating these claims and that Cora could be facing discipline. After Cora’s great start to his managing career in Boston no one could have seen this coming.

Now the timing of this is what makes this look so bad. Now people will say that the Red Sox didn’t deserve to win the championship.

Even though Boston did cheat during the regular season they were unable to in the postseason. If they had done this for the entire season you might have seen an asterisk in the history books next to the championship.

The Red Sox knew what they were doing was wrong. The MLB cracked down on sign stealing in 2017, and in 2018 specifically spoke out about the system the Red Sox were using. It seems highly likely that Alex Cora will be punished for this.

But the Red Sox did win the World Series. Great pitching from Chris Sale and David Price helped catapult the team past the LA Dodgers. Boston’s bats weren’t the only reason they won.

Still to some people the Boston Red Sox’s 2018 World Series championship will always be tainted.
