It might not have been the splash that Boston Bruins fans were expecting but Friday’s trade was a major move for the team.

Well, they finally did it. The Boston Bruins finally made a trade.

Right now Don Sweeney is giving fans another reason to love him. He might have finally gotten the 2nd line right winger that David Krejci needs.

On Friday the Boston Bruins traded David Backes, Axel Andersson, and a 2020 1st round pick to the Anaheim Ducks. In return, Boston got Ondrej Kase.

At first, this might seem like a lopsided trade but Boston Bruins fans should be excited.

The main reason is that Kase is a top 6 talent. He is a perfect match for David Krejci. They are even from the same country. Boston’s 2nd line could be an all Czech Republic line.

Kase is also having a great season this year. He has 7 goals and 16 assists so far. That makes him a top 10 scorer on Boston’s roster.

But there is another reason to be ecstatic about the trade. The Bruins got rid of David Backes.

This helps Boston out a lot. They still have to retain 25 percent off Backes salary, but the cap hit goes from $4.9 million all the way down to $1.5 million. This will help the Bruins out if they want to work on re-signing Torey Krug.

You are also happy that Backes will be back in the NHL. He didn’t fit in Boston’s plans anymore but he didn’t cause any drama. Everyone will be happy to see him back out on the ice.

The Bruins needed to make a move this trade deadline. They needed that extra piece to put them over the edge. Kase seems like he is able to be that guy.

This evens out Boston’s lines and takes some pressure off of the 1st line. I think we will see an uptick in production from Krejci relatively quickly.

dark. Next. Tuukka Rask should win Vezina Trophy

So get excited Boston Bruins fans. The team seems all in for a Stanley Cup run and they have the talent to bring a championship back to Boston.
