Boston Bruins forward David Backes has been dropping the gloves a lot as of late, and that isn’t a problem.

If you have watched the Boston Bruins lately you may have noticed a different style of play. The big bad Bruins are back in full force and a major reason for that is because of David Backes.

Backes reminds you of the glory days in hockey where fighting wasn’t frowned upon, it was encouraged.

This Boston Bruins squad is packed with talent. The team has some depth and will be well prepared for a Stanley Cup run.

For Backes this means he has to find a role. The bruiser hasn’t been lighting the lamp as he used too. This season he only has 5 goals and 10 assists.

As of lately Backes has become the Boston Bruins enforcer. In the last 5 games, Backes has fought 3 times.

Now a lot of people are concerned about this. Backes does have a lengthy concussion history. Fighting isn’t exactly known for being kind to the brain.

Still, I don’t see the problem with Backes dropping the gloves. It’s not like he is being forced to do so.

Also Backes has always been a physical player. It’s not uncommon to see Backes lay a guy out during a game.

Backes also has a pretty long fight history. He has been in over 30 fights in his career (10 since joining the Bruins). This latest outburst didn’t completely come out of nowhere. Backes is able to defend himself and knows what he is getting into when he drops the gloves.

There is no doubt that CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) is a serious issue and Backes needs to think about his life after hockey.

At the end of the day, it is completely up to Backes if he drops the gloves or not. So if he wants to be an enforcer, let him be an enforcer.

It clearly seems to be working. The Boston Bruins have won the 3 games Backes has fought in recently. These bouts electrify the team as well as the fans.

So let’s not rain on David Backes‘ parade. Just let the man fight.
