Mohamed Sanu underperformed for the New England Patriots in 2019 but fans finally found out why on Friday.

The Mohamed Sanu trade sure looked like it backfired in 2019. The New England Patriots sent a 2nd round pick that they desperately could use right now.

New England looks like they will be going through a transformation whether Tom Brady comes back or not. Joe Thuney, Kyle Van Noy, and Devin McCourty could all leave the Patriots this offseason.

Sanu had a decent start to his Patriots career. In his first game, he had 10 catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. After that, there was a severe drop off. The rest of the season he totaled just over 100 yards.

It seemed like Sanu just forgot how to play. Well, now we know that isn’t the case. Sanu was fighting through an ankle injury. One so serious that it requires surgery.

I guess that makes me feel better about the trade. That first game is what we should expect from Sanu here on out. If he plays like that Patriots fans won’t be complaining about the trade at all.

If that is the Sanu we get in 2020 I will feel much better about the trade. Losing that 2nd round pick still stings but it seems like the passing game might be in slightly better shape than we thought. Julian Edelman and Sanu could be an interesting duo with N’Keal Harry rounding out the wide receiver corps.

No matter if Tom Brady comes back or not you are going to need a strong group of wide receivers. We saw that just having Julian Edelman doesn’t cut it anymore.

So expect a much better season from Mohamed Sanu. This season we will finally get to see what the wide receiver is made of as he will return to New England healthy and rested.
