New England Patriots 2020 NFL Draft: Justin Herbert the QB to watch
NFL quarterback prospect Justin Herbert could be on the New England Patriots radar if he starts to slide in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Forget the current franchise quarterback and all his free agency drama, the New England Patriots could have their eyes on the future in the 2020 NFL Draft.
According to the latest mock draft by NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah, that guy could be Justin Herbert.
Selecting at No. 23, Bill Belichick and the Patriots are expected to fill some obvious needs at wide receiver, tight end, defensive back or even along the offensive line. However, if Tom Brady does the almost unthinkable and switch uniforms, quarterback could suddenly become the biggest need.

Slotted to go well before the Patriots select at No. 23, Jeremiah sees the Patriots snagging the quarterback should he begin to slide, which may be possible due to the rise of Utah State’s Jordan Love. If the Indianapolis Colts selects him at No. 13 as forecasted by Jeremiah, Justin Herbert may suddenly be on the Patriots radar and why not?
The team did have their eyes on Baker Mayfield, who went No. 1 overall back in 2016. So, if Herbert slides, don’t be too shocked if Belichick and Josh McDaniels even move up a bit to get one of the best quarterbacks in the draft, a quarterback who completed 68.8 percent of his passes for 3,471 yards with 32 touchdowns against just six interceptions in 2019.
Oh, just imagine the things McDaniels can do with this kid, as the two appear to have a mutual admiration for one another.
Speaking with NBC’s Peter King, Justin Hebert was asked if he was excited to meet with anyone particular at the NFL Scouting Combine. His answer was the New England Patriots offensive coordinator.
"“Coach McDaniels with the Patriots,” Herbert told King. “That’s a guy I’ve always watched, always looked up to. I love their offense.”"
With Jordan Love and Jacob Eason also possibilities at No. 23, would the Patriots really pass up on the 6-foot-6 quarterback if he is right there for the taking?
With Tom Brady re-signs or not, they would be crazy not to grab a guy who may be destined to play for them.
Folks, the 2020 NFL free agency and 2020 NFL Draft is going to be wild for your New England Patriots.
Get ready for the ride.
