Boston Celtics: NBA season has been suspended due to COVID-19
By Sam Minton
Boston Celtics fans are left stunned after it was announced on Wednesday night that the NBA season would be suspended due to COVID-19.
For a while, I have thought that we have been living in some interesting times, but late Wednesday night we saw something that has never happened. The NBA season is suspended and the Boston Celtics won’t be playing for a while.
Why is the NBA shutting down? One of the main reasons is that Rudy Gobert has tested positive for COVID-19. COVID-19 is a coronavirus that can cause respiratory issues that has spread across the globe at the end of 2019.

With Gobert’s positive test the NBA really didn’t have a choice. They needed to suspend the season. Luckily Gobert is in good spirits and is doing well physically.
The scary thing is that the Utah Jazz and Gobert were in town recently. You just have to hope and pray that this doesn’t spread across the NBA and the Celtics.
When I saw Woj tweet that the season was suspended I couldn’t believe it. It’s something the NBA has never done. It is the correct decision but that doesn’t make it any less stunning.
You have to assume that other leagues will fall in line. The NHL will be giving a statement Thursday morning and I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce their season is suspended.
Forgetting about the most important thing (people’s health) it does suck to see the Celtics season put on hold. Jayson Tatum was having a dominant 2nd half of the year and was blossoming into a star.
Now we just have to wait. There is no telling when the NBA will resume play. They might even be forced to jump right into the playoffs or scrap the entire season (Let’s hope and pray that isn’t the case).
But the safety of the public is the most important thing even if that means the NBA shutting down indefinitely.
