Forget Jarrett Stidham, oddsmakers has Deshaun Watson as the new franchise quarterback for the New England Patriots in 2021.

Could a mobile, franchise quarterback fall in the lap of the New England Patriots?

Well, the post-Tom Brady era in New England got very interesting on Monday as Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson added some fuel from betting odds that he will be the new face of the Patriots at quarterback come 2021.

Whatever Bill O’Brien is doing down there in Houston has Watson a very unhappy man who appears to be looking for a way out as quarterback of the Texans after the team traded his top offensive weapon DeAndre Hopkins.

As is always the case with social media, Watson set Patriots Twitter a blaze starting with a tweet back on March 17 in which he addressed the trade of Hopkins:

Sounds like any quarterback who losses his top target right?

Well, on Monday, Watson expressed his dismay with the trade further and appears to indicate he doesn’t have plans on sticking around once his contract is up by quoting Drake lyrics.

With two more years on his rookie contract, the Houston Texans would be silly not to do their best to make the young, talented quarterback happy.

But, what if they can’t?

That’s where the New England Patriots come in because if second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham is not the answer in 2020, the team will still be searching when Watson’s contract is set to expire.  If Bill O’Brien is still the head coach, a perfect trade partner for Watson would be old friend Bill Belichick.

While this is all speculation or wishful dreaming at this point, Watson would be the perfect mobile quarterback for the Patriots.  Not only can he move in the pocket and make things happen, he is more effective within the pocket.

If any team knows how dangerous Deshaun Watson is, it is the Patriots, who he has torched going head-to-head with Tom Brady in the last three meetings between the two teams, performances that has certainly caught the eye of Belichick.

More from Chowder and Champions

"“Deshaun’s a very talented player,” Belichick said of Watson back in 2019, via SI.com.  “Certainly one of the top players in the league at his position that we’ve faced.  Does a great job on the deep ball, has very good touch and accuracy, is a good decision-maker, obviously very athletic kid that can do a lot.”"

Don’t get it twisted, Watson would be no Tom Brady, but he would definitely be a different type of quarterback than New England Patriots fans are used to.  With his ability to keep plays alive, as we recently seen in his playoff performance against the Buffalo Bills, he could be the type of transition quarterback who would give a quick facelift to a dynasty that many around the NFL feel is quickly fading.

Rumors are rumors, especially when quarantined sports fans are starving for something to get excited about, but this situation is worth watching for Patriots fans.  That’s unless Jarrett Stidham becomes the next big thing, or the team somehow sinks enough to join the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes.

The odds-on Deshaun Watson leading the New England Patriots in 2021 is actually higher than any of those two possibilities.  Go ahead, get excited, it’s okay to dream.
