Marcus Smart battled the coronavirus head on and now the Boston Celtics guard is doing what he can to help a cure be developed.

I believe that Boston Celtics fans have known that Marcus Smart is a great guy on and off the court, but now everyone must acknowledge that. These past few weeks Smart has done some amazing things.

Around the NBA, Smart is known as being a pest. He may dive a few times, but he is always taking charges and even running into the stands to make plays.

But that is not why Marcus Smart is a superhero. Ever since the NBA season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, Smart has been vocal about staying safe.

Smart was one of the first players in the NBA to test positive. He took what can be a scary situation and used his platform to tell people to stay at home. Smart even appeared on CNN and spoke about how people should take the virus seriously.

Around a week later Smart is now healthy, and tests showed he no longer has the virus.

Now Smart has continued to use his platform to tell people to practice proper protocols. He isn’t obligated to do anything.

But Marcus Smart is no ordinary human being. He is now donating his blood plasma to a national project that is doing research on patients who have recovered from the virus.

Bravo Marcus Smart. Smart has recognized the platform he has and has been a role model for how people should handle the virus. Smart’s donation will hopefully help researchers find a cure.

I would feel like an idiot if I didn’t mention that we are also seeing people who we take for granted on a day to day basis doing superhuman things. Doctors, nurses, emergency room staff, and many others are battling this virus on the frontlines. They are risking their lives to try and save others.

But Marcus Smart also deserves some credit for all he has done to spread awareness about the virus and for doing his part in what will hopefully lead to a coronavirus cure.
