New England Patriots Rumors:Jarrett Stidham is team’s No. 1 option
By Sam Minton
Ever since Tom Brady left the New England Patriots the question has been who will be his replacement? It appears the team has made a decision.
Being Tom Brady’s replacement isn’t exactly a position I would envy being in. Whoever is under center for the New England Patriots will be under a lot of pressure.
The Patriots do have plenty of options. They can draft a quarterback, stick with Jarrett Stidham, or sign a veteran like Cam Newton or Andy Dalton.

It appears that the Patriots aren’t doing the latter. According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, New England isn’t interested in Dalton or Newton.
I’m definitely glad the Patriots weren’t interested in Dalton. That would be an unmitigated disaster. Bill Belichick is a talented coach, but I don’t think he can make Dalton a competent QB.
Newton on the other hand is an interesting option. At one point, Newton was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He has suffered some injuries, but I believe with the Patriots, Newton could return to his former glory.
But the Patriots are going to stick with Jarrett Stidham.
The only way they wouldn’t is if they draft a QB in the first round. New England likely isn’t selecting Joe Burrow or Tua Tagovailoa who could jump right into a starting job. They might even miss out on a guy like Jordan Love who has some potential to be a starter right away.
If New England were to move up to the top of the draft they would need to give up a lot. Bill Belichick wants to win. It’s the only thing he knows how to do. Giving up a guy like Stephon Gilmore to move up in the draft seems like a move of a rebuilding team, not a winning one.
The Patriots must have seen something when they first drafted Stidham. They might not have expected him to be thrust to the starting job this quickly, but they had to believe he was a capable replacement.
As a sophomore at Auburn, Stidham threw for over 3,000 yards and also had 18 touchdowns. Also, we have been hearing Patriots players and QB guru Jordan Palmer talk about how amazing Stidham is. Surely some of the hype has to be true.
So Patriots fans better prepare for the Jarrett Stidham show. We will see if he flunks or if he will become the next face of the New England Patriots.
