Obviously, the NBA is concerned about the wellbeing of their coaches and players. They don’t want to start the league too early and then have a bunch of players test positive.
But with no sports, fans are anxious to see when they will be able to cheer on their favorite team again. Enes Kanter thinks that fans might be doing so, but it will be from home.
"Enes Kanter said the Celtics have a really good chance of winning a championship. He wants the season to return, expects it to be without fans."
This is probably going to be the new norm for sports. For the foreseeable future sports are going to be played without fans. It will take a while before society is comfortable gathering in large groups again.
But then you have to consider the shape that the players will be in. They aren’t able to train like they normally would. They might have some amazing houses but nothing like an NBA practice facility.
It will take a while for players to get into game shape. Kanter thinks that it will take a few weeks.
It will be hard for the NBA to finish the regular season. If they did it would come at the expense of playoff series. Instead of 7 games they would likely be cut down to 5.
If you have the players jump right into the playoffs some teams would feel cheated out of a playoff spot. Also, the product that you got out on the court would likely be subpar if you jumped right to games.
So just like the rest of sports, basketball won’t be returning for a while and when it does it will take a while for games to begin.
