Torey Krug seems to be worried about his future with the Boston Bruins and that adds to the reasons the team needs to sign him.

The NHL season might be put on pause, but that doesn’t mean we should stop thinking about possible moves the Boston Bruins can make.

One of the most important decisions the front office has to make is whether or not they will re-sign Torey Krug. Lately, it seems like the team might not bring him back.

More from Chowder and Champions

With no hockey being played, Krug has plenty of time to do interviews and talk about his future. On Tuesday we saw him voice his displeasure about the season being cut short and the thought that he could have played his last game as a Bruin.

I really hope this isn’t the case. The Boston Bruins would be making a big mistake if they let Torey Krug go.

Now I do understand that Krug isn’t your prototypical defensemen. He excels on offense and is short for the position.

But Krug is extremely talented. He is a great puck-moving defensemen who is killer on the power play. Krug also knows how to put the puck in the perfect position for a teammate to score.

Krug has 40 assists and also has 9 goals. Of those 40 assists, 26 came on the power play. This isn’t just impressive for a defensemen, Krug is 4th on the team in points.

If Krug was to leave the Bruins power play would take a massive hit. You would basically be replacing him with Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk. McAvoy has issues with being consistent and Grzelcyk is definitley a drop in production.

Zdeno Chara is going to be retiring soon so I think losing Krug would hurt the defense a lot. When Chara does retire Krug could easily become the No.1 guy.

Krug has been vocal about how he wants to stay with the team. He even said he is willing to take a hometown discount. Why wouldn’t you sign him?

So I really hope that the Boston Bruins end up signing Torey Krug because it would be painful to see him play for another team.
