The New England Patriots signed Josh Uche on Wednesday and it seems like the team believes in Uche’s talent.

Not too many rookies have signed their post-draft deals. That is what makes the New England Patriots signing of Josh Uche so interesting.

Uche is the highest draft pick to sign a deal so far. The terms of the deal definitely show what the New England Patriots think of Uche. He signed a 4-year deal worth $5.389 million and also includes a $1.48 million signing bonus. That’s not a bad deal for both sides.

My immediate reaction was that the Patriots must really love this guy. Especially since he was one of the first draft picks in the entire draft to sign a deal.  Also, I’m expecting Uche to be a starter when the regular season arrives.

With the departure of multiple linebackers and defensive lineman in the offseason, it makes sense to start Uche. He can be an edge rusher that can get to the quarterback as well as stop the ball carrier.

Uche was impressive at Michigan. In his senior season, he racked up over 10 tackles for loss and had 7.5 sacks.  If he can even have half the number of sacks Patriots fans will be happy.

There is also the chance for Uche to become a major part of New England’s great defense. He and his former Michigan teammate Chase Winovich could become a dangerous duo giving opposing QB’s nightmares (or dare I say make them see ghosts).

The New England Patriots will once again need a strong defense if they want to be succesfull in 2020. Instead of relying on the offense and Tom Brady to win games, guys like Dont’a Hightower, Stephon Gilmore, and Devin McCourty will need to make big plays.

Next. Why counting on Jarrett Stidham is a very risky gamble. dark

Whenever the season does start I can’t wait to see what Uche can do. I’m glad he and the New England Patriots were able to work out a deal so soon. Uche is definitely a player that Patriots fans will want to keep an eye on.
