On Monday it was announced that Richard Seymour would be inducted into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame. The honor is long overdue.

The New England Patriots Hall of Fame has to make room for a new member. Richard Seymour will be getting his red jacket this year.

It took a while for Seymour to make his way in. These past few years he was a finalist for the honor but it took until 2020 for him to find his way in.

More from Chowder and Champions

Seymour was a beast. There is no other way to describe him. He was the foundation of New England’s defense in the early 2000s and was a major factor in the Patriots winning 3 Super Bowls while Seymour was with the team.

Seymour spent 8 years in New England and put up some quality numbers. In over 100 games played he had 39 sacks, 359 tackles, and 37 QB hits. Among defensive linemen, Seymour has the 3rd most sacks in team history.

But Seymour is more than stats. Just his presence on the field occupied linemen and made life easier for the Patriots

The man was a menace. He gave opposing coaches nightmares. Seymour was one of the greatest pass rushers in New England Patriots history.

When Seymour left the team it was disappointing. Like a lot of players that leave New England the move doesn’t seem to make sense at the time. You wish players like Seymour, Tom Brady, Lawyer Milloy, Drew Bledsoe, and Rob Gronkowski had played their entire careers with the Patriots.

Still, Seymour will always be remembered as a Patriot. This enshrinement just proves that.

The next stop for Seymour will be Canton, Ohio. Seymour deserves to be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. With his 3 Super Bowl championships, 7 Pro Bowls, and impressive pass-rushing numbers he deserves a spot in football immortality.

New England would not have been as succesfull without him. In more recent years we have seen how important the pass rush is. When the Patriots are getting to the quarterback they seem to win a lot more games.

Next. Anfernee Jennings has a familiar edge to him. dark

So congratulations are in order for Richard Seymour, one of the greatest pass rushers in New England Patriots history.
