On Monday the AHL announced that they had canceled the rest of their season. This could have a big impact on the Boston Bruins.

The main focus of the sports world is when professional sports will be back in the United States, but there are also minor leagues who desperately need the gate revenue. One of these leagues won’t be coming back and it could have a great effect on the Boston Bruins.

First off it is sad to see the season get canceled. The guys down in Providence worked so hard and to have the season wiped out is disappointing.

But this is the right decision. At times like these, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Now I have to admit that I am now a bit nervous about the NHL season. If the AHL season can be canceled the NHL season can be as well.

This would be a huge blow to the Boston Bruins. They were having a great season and were tearing it up. After losing in Game 7 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals it seemed like Boston had the chance to get redemption in 2020.

Of course, safety has to be the No.1 priority. You can’t risk starting things up and then having a bunch of players test positive for the coronavirus. Then you would seriously jeopardize the season and the chances of awarding the Stanley Cup.

The Stanley Cup has always been awarded to a team. Even during the Spanish Flu, the two teams who made it to the Finals had their names on the cup. A season without a Stanley Cup champion would be truly historic.

But let’s try and be positive. AHL president Dave Andrews believes that some players will be called up to be reserves. Maybe this indicates that the NHL is planning on coming back? This could actually help some players get some playing time in the NHL.

It’s sad to see the AHL season is canceled and hopefully this doesn’t indicate that the NHL is considering doing the same thing.
