Boston Celtics: 1 championship level trade with the Brooklyn Nets
The Boston Celtics are one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but which player from the Brooklyn Nets would make them a championship contender?
If the Boston Celtics were granted one trade prior to the return of league play to improve their roster, which player from the Brooklyn Nets could help put the team into the conversation as a Finals contender?
Looking at the roster, we already know which player we wouldn’t snag off the Nets’ roster.
Besides being injured, both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant would be off limits, obviously. But, Kemba Walker has already proven to be a better leader than Irving was during his tenure in Boston. Durant would be a dream, but the Celtics have enough scoring with the combination of Walker, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Gordon Hayward.
So which Nets player would be a nice, solid addition?
While Caris LeVert would also be intriguing, I’m going with Jarrett Allen due to his youth, rim-protecting ability and upside.
While the Celtics could potentially have the same kind of player in Robert Williams, Allen would give them a more reliable force down below right now.
In his third season in the NBA, Allen was nearly averaging a double-double with 10.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
More productive in both areas than Williams, obviously.
Even more enticing is that he will only get better when surrounded by elite scorers. Yes, Brooklyn have that in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, but neither have really been on the court for the Nets.
A starting five of Kemba Walker, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum and Jarrett Allen with Marcus Smart, Daniel Theis and Enes Kanter rotating off the bench would give Brad Stevens more options to play both big and small depending on the opposing team.
Boston Celtics trade proposal to the Brooklyn Nets
First of all, the Brooklyn Nets will probably think twice about making a deal with Danny Ainge ever again.

But, let’s just say the two got on the phone and the Boston Celtics really believed Jarrett Allen was that big man they have been searching for?
A package surrounding Romeo Langford, Robert Williams and draft pick should be enough.
At this point in his career, Allen would not count much against the cap, with a hit of $2,376,840. To make the money work for both sides, the Nets would have to send another player in the deal as both Langford and Williams combined would count more against the cap for Brooklyn.
This fantasy trade scenario can work in that respect, but in reality, the Nets wouldn’t be willing to part ways with a young big man with the rising potential Jarrett Allen has.
Why the Boston Celtics need Jarrett Allen?
Prior to the league going on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Celtics were dealing with injuries while at the same time witnessing the emergence of Jayson Tatum into an NBA superstar.
Along with Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward and Kemba Walker, scoring was certainly not an issue for the Boston Celtics. As they proved in games against the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and other top scoring teams in the NBA, they can keep up offensively. But, one area of concern was the frontcourt.
After not making a deal at the NBA Trade Deadline, the Celtics decided to roll with Daniel Theis, Enes Kanter, Robert Williams and rookie Grant Williams.
While Theis was playing well and Kanter provided rebounding off the bench, another big man would certainly help and what an addition Jarrett Allen would be.
In a big man rotation that would include Theis and Kanter, along with Grant Williams against smaller teams, the Celtics would have a solid front court that could defend a big man like Joel Embiid and provide an upgrade in rim protection against a player like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
If they were to reach the finals against a team like the Lakers, the 6-foot-11 frame of Jarrett Allen would help limit the dominance of one Anthony Davis.
In all, Jarrett Allen also has the ability to score around the rim which makes him a perfect big man for how the Boston Celtics roster is currently constructed.
