New England Patriots: Cam Newton brings fun to Foxboro
By Sam Minton
By signing Cam Newton the New England Patriots ensured that the 2020 NFL season will be a fun one.
There is a lot to like about the New England Patriots signing Cam Newton. He seems to be the ideal replacement for the greatest quarterback of all time.
Just like Tom Brady, Newton has won an MVP award. At one time he was the best quarterback in the NFL.

But Newton has dealt with his fair share of injuries. Now he has something to prove.
In 2020 we will likely see Newton rely on his arm. He is still able to run but it’s best to do everything you can to keep him healthy. Newton isn’t afraid to shy away from contact which can sometimes be to his detriment.
Still, CNLS’ Evan Lazar makes an interesting point. Cam only scrambled six percent of the time when he dropped back into the pocket in 2018.
People tend to doubt Newton’s passing ability but I expect that to be shown off in 2020. With talented guys like Mohamed Sanu and N’Keal Harry to throw the deep ball to. Then you also have Julian Edelman who you can rely on to gain yards and make catches in important situations.
But there is also something else that Newton brings. Cam plays the game with a certain flair. He isn’t afraid to show that he is actually having fun on the field.
Former wide receiver Randy Moss is excited to see how the Patriots offense looks now that Newton is on the roster.
"“I think we are really getting ready to see how fun that offense can really be. Not discrediting anything Tom accomplished because he accomplished some great things, but I think being able to have a guy like Cam Newton that can run the ball, they are able to spread guys out, and then being able to be that viable threat in the passing game that he can just tuck the ball and run.”"
It will be interesting to see what Josh McDaniels does with the playbook. He now has a world of directions he can go in and won’t be handicapped by a QB whose speed is lacking.
Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the conversation surrounding Cam. For some reason the afternoon show at 98.5 the Sports Hub had to question how Bill Belichick will handle Newton’s personality and how he likes to celebrate.
It’s almost like they haven’t seen the Patriots in recent years. Have they already forgotten about dancing phenom Rob Gronkowski? Brady isn’t a shy guy either. When he is on the field he wears his emotions on his sleeve.
What’s the difference between Brady and Newton?
So get your popcorn ready, because watching Newton play in New England will be a blast.
