Even though J.D. Martinez is at-risk for the coronavirus he still ensured Boston Red Sox fans that he will be playing this year.

2020 has been a weird year. We have really seen just how much Boston Red Sox fans miss watching their favorite team play.

The 2020 season will be different. Teams will play 60 games which is less than half of a normal season. A normal MLB season seems like a marathon that will never end. This one will be over in the blink of an eye.

More from Chowder and Champions

We are starting to see some players announce that they will not be participating. Recently David Price announced that he will not be playing in 2020. Looks like Boston’s trade with the Dodgers wasn’t as bad as we all one thought.

One player that we know will be suiting up for the Red Sox is J.D. Martinez. Red Sox fans are happy to hear this.

Martinez has asthma and the coronavirus can be especially harmful to individuals with respiratory issues. If Martinez had decided to sit out you couldn’t really blame him.

Even though he is quite scared there is one thing that outweighs his fear.

"“I’m excited to go out there and play,” Martinez said. “I think my love for the game is going to outweigh my fear once I get out there.”"

Martinez doesn’t necessarily have a lot to prove. He won a World Series in 2018 with 43 home runs, 130 RBIs, and a .330 batting average.

Having Martinez will help out the Red Sox a ton. He will bring the power close to the top of the order. This will be especially crucial as Boston’s starting rotation isn’t the best.

If the Red Sox want to win it will be behind the power of the offense. I wouldn’t expect a lot of 1-0 victories this season.

Also with pitcher’s schedules getting messed up due to the extended pause it is likely that this is a season where offense will win games. That could actually work in Boston’s favor.

Boston has a lot of young players that will help out at the plate. Having Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, and Martinez near the top of the order is dangerous. If guys like Andrew Benintendi and Jackie Bradley Jr. can improve at the plate, the Red Sox might really be in buisness.

So kudos to Martinez. If he decided to sit out Red Sox nation would welcome  the move. At the end of the day you have to lookout for the safety of you and your family.

dark. Next. MLB season and much more still in jeopardy

But Martinez loves the game and he is hoping that he can lead Boston to a succesfull 2020 campaign.
