With Eduardo Rodriguez’s status for the start of the 2020 season in question, the Boston Red Sox starting rotation looks extremely weak.

Baseball will be starting up soon and Boston Red Sox fans will be able to see their favorite players take the field, but the 2020 season could be a long one for Red Sox fans.

The Red Sox were already facing an uphill battle after they traded away David Price and Mookie Betts. These were two key players who had a significant role.

Then Chris Sale got injured and it was announced that he would miss the rest of the season. Could things get any worse?

Well they did. A global pandemic took away any hope of a full season being played. MLB is hoping they get lucky and are able to crown a champion at the end of a 60 game season.

But bad news continues to come the Red Sox way. Eduardo Rodriguez tested positive for the coronavirus and his status for the start of the season is in question.

Rodriguez was supposed to be Boston’s ace this season. He was supposed to be the opening day starter. Now it appears that honor belongs to Nathan Eovaldi.

But after that, the Red Sox starting rotation is filled by a bunch of no-names and mediocre players. Martin Perez is a player that the Red Sox acquired this offseason and he hasn’t exactly lit things up during his career. In 8 seasons he has an average ERA of 4.72 and a 53-36 record.

After that, you have Colin McHugh who ended up working out of the bullpen last season with the Astros. The Red Sox are hoping that they somehow will be able to revitalize his career.

Then finally you have Ryan Weber who has spent most of his time with the Red Sox in the minors. Weber has only made 11 major league starts and has a 5.96 ERA.

So the Red Sox will need to have a great offense and that’s with E-Rod as your No.1 starter. If the bats fail to show up, it could be a long season for Boston Red Sox fans. It seems unlikely that any moves will be made to strengthen the rotation so what you see is what you get.

Next. MLB season and much more still in jeopardy. dark

So hopefully guys like J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts are able to lead the way because if they fail to bring in runs we could be in for one of the worst seasons in recent Red Sox history.
