A lot of people including the NFLPA are wondering if the 2020 preseason should be canceled but New England Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty hopes the games take place.

A lot of the 2020 NFL season remains up in the air. Who knows if New England Patriots fans will even be able to see games live and in person this season.

The NFL is doing it’s best to do what is best for the players and coaches. There will only be two preseason games this season.

But some are calling for the entire preseason to be canceled and it is starting to gain ground among the members of the NFLPA.

Now strictly from the viewer’s standpoint, the preseason games can be a bore. The scores don’t matter and all they are there for is to see who barely makes the roster.

But preseason games are important and I’m not the only person who thinks so. Jason McCourty spoke about the preseason and he hopes that it isn’t canceled.

"“For me, just assuming things are flowing, any time you reduce preseason games, I know for some people you look at it and it’s like, ‘Hey, no one goes to those games, they’re not as important, blah, blah, blah.’ But, at the same time, some of your favorite players now were guys that had to go out there and make a name for themselves in those preseason games,” McCourty said on his podcast “Double Coverage” this weekend. “So whenever you see those types of games taken away it hurts because that’s the way guys make the team that they’re on. They make other teams."

I would be lying if I said that preseason games don’t get boring at times. Especially when you know who is going to be starting, but this season is different.

The Patriots have some important position battles including the quarterback position. It doesn’t matter if Cam Newton or Jarrett Stidham is the starter, they need to build chemistry with the wideouts.

Also, a lot of Patriots stars have ensured they made the roster thanks to the preseason. Without the preseason who knows if we get guys like Malcolm Butler and Jonas Gray making the roster. Without Butler, New England’s entire history could look different.

So they might not be the most exciting games but these preseason games are necessary. If there is no preseason the Patriots will be starting the season a step behind. These players need to get their snaps in.
