It hasn’t taken a long time for Cam Newton to become a part of New England Patriots history. He hasn’t even touched the field at Gillette Stadium yet.

We finally got to see what number Newton would wear and see just how great he would look in a Patriots uniform.
Credit to the Patriots social media team because they made an awesome hype video for Newton. All of New England was ready to run through a brick wall after watching it.
So what number will Newton be wearing? It’s the number you expected him to wear.
Newton is No.1 on both the depth chart and his jersey.
Now one has to wonder just how much Newton paid New England’s mascot to get the number. As we all know Pat the Patriot has worn the number for a long time now.
Newton is the first player since 1987 to wear the number and is just the 4th player in team history to wear No.1.
Also, the depth chart shows something interesting. Newton is the first quarterback listed on the depth chart.
Now the job isn’t done yet as it appears Jarrett Stidham is also in the first spot but he is below Newton. We all know Newton is the favorite to win the job but he needs to prove so throughout the offseason.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the offseason and the ramp up to the regular season works out. The preseason is already down to 2 games and could be eliminated altogether.
The preseason seems to be the best chance for Stidham to prove he should start. If there is none it would make sense for New England to go with the veteran Newton who has proven that he can be one of the league’s best QB’s.
So the Newton era has officially started in New England. Just with his jersey number Newton is already a part of Patriots history but if he wants to have a more prominent status he will have to win when the regular season gets underway.
But with Newton under center, anything seems possible. Could New England find their way back to the Super Bowl? We will just have to wait and see.
