With Mookie Betts signing his mega-deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, one can only imagine a life where Betts is still a member of the Boston Red Sox organization.

The wounds are still fresh. It has been a few months but Boston Red Sox fans still miss Mookie Betts.

How could you not? Betts was the face of the organization.  He was great at the plate and one of the driving forces behind the Red Sox’s 2018 World Series. He was named MVP after all.

More from Chowder and Champions

Betts is a top 5 player in Major League Baseball. You can not replace a player of his caliber. There will now be a giant hole in Boston’s outfield.

But Boston decided to be cheap. Ownership decided they didn’t want to reward a player that had come up through their farm system.

Instead, they traded him to LA where he would sign a massive deal that will make him a Dodger for life. The only people who will remember him playing in Boston will be Red Sox fans.

If the Red Sox wanted to pay Betts they could have. All Mookie was asking for was his fair share. After all he did for the Red Sox one could say it was well deserved. The Dodgers were willing to break out the checkbook.

Boston is the same team who let Jon Lester walk while signing David Price and Chris Sale to enormous contracts. These decisions are just ludicrous. How do you pay those guys but not one of your own in Betts?

This Betts deal shows that he wasn’t waiting for free agency to get paid. He wasn’t unwilling to commit to a team. All he was asking for was the right price.

Next. The Red Sox lost another starting pitcher. dark

Mookie Betts should still be a Red Sox. Boston should have signed him to a longterm deal. But ownership decided to value profit over performance and that will prove costly.
