The New England Patriots signed tight end Paul Quessenberry and he is definitley a player that fans should root for.

It seems as though a lot of the New England Patriots roster has been set in stone. There appear to be only a few steps up for grabs.

Besides the quarterback position, one of the most interesting positions to look at is the battle at tight end. The Patriots could go in a lot of different directions.

More from Chowder and Champions

New England drafted Dalton Keene and Devin Asiasi in 2020. With their performance so far in Training Camp, it looks like they will be a part of New England’s offense. Ryan Izzo is also another young player who is slated for a major role this season.

Izzo had a minor role in 2019. He had six catches for 114 yards and a touchdown. This is a great chance for Izzo to solidify his spot on the roster and become a starting tight end.

But it appears that New England is not done yet. They recently signed Paul Quessenberry and his story is rather interesting.

Quessenberry played his college ball at the Naval Academy. There he played defensive end for the Midshipmen. After going undrafted and not finding a team to play on he decided to join the Marines.

Joe Cardona a fellow player at Navy might have shed some light on why New England might have signed him.

"“He was my class at the Academy, we were teammates for five years going back to the prep school. You talk about a special guy that is as tough as they come. It means a lot to me to share this experience,” Patriots long snapper Joe Cardona, a teammate at Navy, told reporters Sunday. “He played defensive end and was always a high-effort, high-energy guy, played on special teams."

If there is one thing that Bill Belichick likes it’s a versatile special teams player. The special teams unit might be his favorite part of the game.

Next. Damien Harris could finally get his shot. dark

So it will be interesting to see if Quessenberry ends up on the final roster. He will definitely have to battle for one of the final spots. If he is able to make it onto the final roster it would be quite the story.
