New England Patriots rumors: Team fed up with Jarrett Stidham
By Sam Minton
Even though it looked like Jarrett Stidham was about to be the starter for the New England Patriots, now it appears that he has upset the organization.
This offseason has been an interesting one for the New England Patriots at quarterback. It’s hard for it not to be with Tom Brady leaving.
But now with the roster solidified there are new stones being turned over each and every day. Fans get to learn more and more as we inch closer to the regular season.

One player who has had a rollercoaster of an offseason is Jarrett Stidham. He went from having a great opportunity to be the starting quarterback in Week 1, to now being on the outside looking in.
The signing of Cam Newton really changed everything for the Patriots. It showed that the team might not have been as confident in Stidham then they once were. Why else would you go sign a former MVP quarterback?
Then there was the news of Stidham getting injured. It seemed like this was his final goodbye to the 2020 starting quarterback job.
But now Stidham isn’t doing himself any favors. Now it seems like he could be nearing his final days in New England.
"If it’s an overuse injury — and sources believe that’s what this is — that will not be looked at favorably by the coaches. Players have had months to get ready for this camp, to prepare themselves. If you’re trying to be the franchise quarterback of the Patriots after Tom Brady and competing with Cam Newton, you are 100 percent physically ready to go and you do not miss reps for anything short of a major injury."
This is such an important offseason for the Patriots. It’s time to prove that their success wasn’t all because of Brady. How would you not have your body prepared when replacing the greatest quarterback of all time?
It seems as though Stidham might not be ready for the big time. At this point, you have to wonder if he ever will be.
New England could continue to draft quarterbacks and have Newton and Brian Hoyer prepare them for the future. This is all dependent on just how well Newton does in the regular season. If he plays like a former MVP, New England will do just fine.
It’s fair to say that Patriots fans might have expected too much out of Stidham. We expected this great young quarterback but he isn’t that good yet.
If Stidham has angered the coaching staff, he could be on the move. New England has a short leash on their young quarterbacks. Belichick isn’t afraid to move on from players no matter how great they have played. Moving on from Stidham wouldn’t be that difficult.
So don’t expect to see a lot of Stidham in 2020. The QB job is Newton’s to lose at this point.
