Devin McCourty and other New England Patriots spoke to the media and fans should feel bad for how hopeless and heartbroken they are.

The sports world is undergoing a change. Players are realizing just how much power they have. Still, some New England Patriots players don’t know what they can do.

After Jacob Blake was shot SEVEN times by the police, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. On Wednesday the NBA decided they would not play any games.

Now the question seems to be what will everyone else do. The NHL didn’t play games on Thursday and neither did the WNBA.

The NFL regular season is still in the distance but teams have postponed practices while others have not. New England practiced on Wednesday but the words from some of their players left a profound impact. You felt bad for these guys who you cheer on every Sunday.

Devin McCourty’s comments particularly stood out. They broke your heart and you can feel his emotion in the words. It should be necessary reading for everyone.

"“I’ve been thinking a lot the last couple of days. I’ve had so many different emotions of being angry, being sad. A lot of it has really been what I try to talk to a lot of kids about. I’ve felt very hopeless. I don’t have a statement. I don’t have anything powerful. It’s just been very disheartening. Just watching things transpire, watching lives still be lost and it’s not just police brutality. It’s everything we deal with. Even today, I’m going to come on here and you’re going to ask me questions and it’s going to be my opinions on different things. I just feel like overall until people turn on different things and we watch that and still have the same outlook like, ‘man, what is going on? This is heartbreaking. This is terrible,’ it just doesn’t matter. I’ve just felt very hopeless the last couple of days.”"

It’s awful that these players have to go through this. It’s something that I can’t even imagine.

McCourty is one of the most outspoken players on the Patriots roster. He is the one that usually has all the answers. The fact that he doesn’t even know what to do any more shows just how bad of a situation we are in.

Jason McCourty also spoke for an extended period of time and his words were equally impactful.

At the end of the day, I hope there is a regular season. Whatever the players decide to do, I will have their back. We can’t just root for these guys on Sunday. Fans need to support them even more in times like this.

Next. Patriots fans should root for Paul Quessenberry. dark

But hopefully having a regular season will show that some serious change has happened because it’s pretty clear that this is what our country and society need.
