Boston Bruins: Zdeno Chara and Torey Krug are likely gone
By Sam Minton
After getting knocked out of the playoffs in the Second Round, it appears that some members of the Boston Bruins might have played their last game in black and gold.
The Boston Bruins are out of the 2020 playoffs. With how well they performed in the regular season, it seems way too soon.
To the Lightning’s credit, they were the better team. It’s hard to say that they weren’t the better team in the series. Still, it’s a tough pill to swallow.

There will be plenty of what if’s. What if the pause never happened? What if Tuukka Rask played? What if Cedric Paquette was penalized for his awful hit?
But none of that matters now that the Bruins are out. Now, all we can do is look forward.
Looking towards the future is quite scary for Bruins fans. That’s because some important players might have played their last game for Boston.
The player who seems to be gone for sure is Torey Krug. Boston’s window appears to be closing and it doesn’t seem like the Bruins will want to break out the checkbook. Boston also has plenty of defensemen coming up in the system.
There’s also the case of Zdeno Chara. Now even though Chara is on the older side of things this is rather surprising. Chara has mentioned that he had wanted to play another season.
But Doc Emrick made some comments during the handshake line that made it seem like he knew Chara was retiring.
Now Boston would be able to survive on the ice but losing a player like Chara in the locker room is a big blow. Especially with the amount of young talent on Boston’s roster. They need a leader like Chara.
Then there is the case of Tuukka Rask. After withdrawing from the bubble due to a family emergency, it’s hard to think he will want to enter a bubble again. With how things are going it’s likely that there is a bubble when the 2020-21 NHL season begins.
Honestly, I wouldn’t blame Rask if he opted-out once again or even retired. With how he was treated by some media members and fans I wouldn’t want to play for them.
So the Boston Bruins could be without a lot of their key players next season and that could affect their status as Stanley Cup contenders.
