It might seem crazy, but there is a reason that Boston Celtics fans should be happy that the LA Lakers won the NBA Championship on Sunday night.

What I’m about to say will sound crazy. Some Boston Celtics fans will probably get angry, but there is a reason that C’s fans should be happy about the LA Lakers winning a NBA title. That reason is named Rajon Rondo.

Rondo was a player that was beloved in Boston. The Big 3 gets a lot of credit, but during his time in Boston, Rondo was a key piece.

More from Chowder and Champions

The first nine years of Rondo’s career was spent in Boston. He averaged 11 points and 8.5 assists per game. Rondo was just what the Celtics needed at point guard.

Rondo was able to win a championship in 2008 with the Celtics but eventually moved on from the team in the 2014-15 season.

From then on Rondo had been meandering his way through the NBA. The Lakers were his fifth team since leaving Boston. It seems like LA is now a home for Rondo.

This past season was actually one of Rondo’s best since he left the Celtics. Rondo averaged 12.5 points and 8.8 assists per game.

Now Rondo has his second NBA title ten years after winning his first ring. He now enters rare air by winning a championship with both the C’s and the Lakers. Clyde Lovellette was the first and that was all the way back in 1963.

At the end of the day, C’s fans should be happy that Rondo was able to win another championship. Even though it seems like the stuff of nightmares, seeing him win a title with the Lakers is nice.

Rondo is still beloved in Boston. He might not have been the best jump shooter, but he played great defense and was a great ball-distributor.

Now the 2020 season is behind Celtics fans. The focus can be on the future and next season. C’s fans will be hoping that Boston is much more successful than they were in 2020.

Gordon Hayward for Myles Turner is a must. dark. Next

But with the NBA season concluding with Rondo getting another ring, things aren’t so bad. It might seem weird, but Celtics fans should be happy with Rondo’s Lakers winning a title.
