Veteran starting pitcher Corey Kluber would be just what the Boston Red Sox starting rotation needs.

One of the areas where the Boston Red Sox struggled the most in 2020 was their starting rotation. That’s why the reported interest in Corey Kluber makes a lot of sense.

To Boston’s credit, they did deal with some significant injuries. Both Chris Sale and Eduardo Rodriguez missed the entire season. These two guys are in line to make their returns in 2021.

But Boston’s starting rotation still needs some improvement. They need to last six or seven innings to put the bullpen in rotation to close out the game.

With the 2021 season inching closer, the Red Sox seem like they are in the market for a starting pitcher. They need someone with proven success and can make an impact right away.

That’s why the rumors of Boston being interested in Kluber makes perfect sense. He is in fact a former Cy Young winner.

Kluber didn’t appear much in 2020 due to a muscle strain but he looks like he will be ready for next season. Prior to that, he was the ace in Cleveland. Kluber was an All-Star for three straight years starting in 2016.

The righty won the second Cy Young of his career in 2017. Kluber won 18 games and had a 2.25 ERA along with 265 strikeouts.

Adding a player of Kluber’s caliber would make Boston’s starting rotation rather deep. E-Rod, Sale, and Kluber being your top pitchers would make sweeping series a lot easier.

Boston’s bats are all set. Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers, and J.D. Martinez will ensure that the Red Sox are scoring runs. If Boston wants to return to the playoffs, they need to have solid pitching that they can rely on.

It also helps that Kluber lives in Boston during the offseason. The man already has a house here why not play for the local team?

Due to him returning from an injury, the Red Sox shouldn’t have to spend a lot of money either. No matter what Kluber is worth investing in. Sign him to a two or three-year deal and Boston would get some solid pitching. What more can you ask for?

dark. Next. Time for Jon Lester to come home

So Boston Red Sox fans should be hoping that the team signs Kluber before the start of the regular season. Then Boston would have the chance to be contenders and once you make it into the postseason, anything is possible.
